'Hey Boy,' Goapele's Got A New Groove For You

Just in time for summer, your girl Goapele returns to the scene with an infectious jam sure to be heard at your next summer function. "Hey Boy" finds the singer hopping on the same early '80s R&B revival train that Mariah Carey, Jennifer Hudson, Tank and others are currently riding and, we must say, we aren't mad. Over a groove slightly reminiscent of Slave's "Watching You," Goapele shouts out the fella who's got her interested in a bit of summer lovin'.

Her sweet and soft soprano works perfectly here, capturing the rapturous feeling of finding new love as the uptempo groove swings with a sticky bass guitar groove and drums that knock ever so right. And while this is mostly an upbeat affair, Goapele even slows it down, chop and screwing it just a bit and at just the right places, to give us a bit of unexpected edge.

Hopefully this new single, which will be available on iTunes come June 23rd, means that a new album, her first under Eric Benét's Jordan House label, is soon on its way. We'll cross our fingers as we do a mean two-step and give Goapele's latest a few (hundred) more spins.
