It's Hard To Stay 'Away' From This Kenneth Whalum III & Big K.R.I.T Single

When he's not busy backing the likes of Maxwell, Ludadcris and Jay Z in the studio and on the road, Kenneth Whalum III is working hard to establish himself as a headliner in his own right. The GRAMMY Award-winning saxophonist, singer and producer continues his quest with his upcoming sophomore album, Through Hell & High Water, slated to drop this spring. On the album's first single, "Away," Whalum enlists the help of rapper Big K.R.I.T. for this tale about losing yourself and the subsequent road back. The result is a smooth and introspective melding of hip hop and jazz. Whalum's and K.R.I.T.'s verses provide the perfect complement to each, with Whalum's tenor sax laying down the perfect foundation for the duo. "Away," available now on iTunes, debuted at the No. 2 spot on the iTunes jazz charts. Through Hell & High Water is the follow-up to Whalum's stunning 2010 studio debut To Those Who Believe, which featured appearances from Robert Glasper, Derrick Hodge, Chris Dave and Common. No word yet on who else Whalum tapped for his second outing, but with talent like his, he'll definitely be the main attraction.
