The Decoders Strike 'Black Gold' On Their Latest Single

I think it's fair to say that The Decoders have somewhat of a love affair with the late, great Minnie Riperton and the man responsible for her sound during her Rotary Connection/Come To My Garden days, Charles Stepney. Their latest single, a cover of Rotary Connection's "I Am The Black Gold Of The Sun", marks the fourth time the guys have covered a Minnie song -- previously they have released versions of "Inside My Love," "Baby, This Love I Have" and "Les Fleurs" -- and the fourth time they have covered a Stepney production -- "Les Fleurs" and "Reasons" and "That's The Way Of The World" by Earth, Wind & Fire. True to form, The Decoders have crafted a beautiful tribute to the original, injecting an orchestral-samba vibe that suits the track's epic proportions perfectly. Vocals come courtesy of Loren Oden and Brooke De Rosa, who some of you may already be familiar with from Adrian Younge's Venice Dawn project. As usual, the track will be available to purchase via The Decoders' Bandcamp page where you can also check out their previous covers if you have been caught sleeping.
