Bounce-Worthy: Rachel Claudio

Rachel Claudio came to SoulBounce's attention by way of an email en Française. Luckily I took French in high school, and Google Translate came in pretty handy. Rudimentary translations aside, you don't need to be fluent in French to know that Ms. Claudio is a true talent. The Australia-born, Paris-based songstress is ready to show the world "the writing of Claudio" on her debut project, Claudiography. Set for release this month, her album is guaranteed to be a treat for soul lovers the world over. You get a feel for her voice's capacity to sizzle (and scream) on the song "Dissertation," a soulful missive off the Utterance EP that she put out earlier this summer. Being a fan of vocal dramatics that I am, I found her voice to be a nice blend of rawness and beauty that makes listening to her enjoyable. While she has made her mark as an electronica/house artist, she is culturally steeped in soul music and has been featured on a number of compilation CDs and mixes since her arrival in France in 2006. Her song "Belong" was a highlight on Tokyo Dawn's The Heart Volume 2 collection, which came out in June. Peep her album "trailer" after the bounce, which does an amazing job of giving you an idea of the type of artist Rachel Claudio is -- she cares deeply about the words and the music and also wants to shout out the artists who have gone before her (she showcases commemorative album covers of Erykah Badu's Mama's Gun and J Dilla's The Shining among others, for example).
