Sharlene Hector Goes Solo With Her 'Expressions'

Anyone familiar with London's thriving soul scene should be familiar with the name Sharlene Hector. She is an established, experienced vocalist who has served as frontwoman for Bassment Jaxx and Acer Maple, as well as working alongside artists such as Reel People ("The Rain") and as a background vocalist for a who's who of R&B, soul, and pop artists. The eagle-eyed amongst you (at least the UK Bouncers) may also recognize Sharlene from a very high profile ad campaign for Coca-Cola where she sang the Nina Simone classic "I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel To Be Free." Surprisingly, Sharlene has never released a solo project--until now, that is. Her Expressions EP is five-tracks of exquisite, soulful goodness that I defy anyone not to fall instantly in love with. "You Don't Have To Tell Me" is one of my all time favorite songs (it's been making the rounds for a few years now) and features Sharlene's beautiful vocals gliding over an acoustic guitar backing. "Are You Listening?" brings to mind a funkdafied Ledisi and "Up All Night" is an uptempo, feel-good track about staying up late with that special someone. I strongly recommend you add this EP to your collection ASAP.
