Prince To Release Free Album In Europe

European music lovers definitely have something to cheer about. That's
because Prince plans to release his latest album, 20Ten, via various European
publications for free.99. Yes, you read that right. FREE. In a deal struck
with the U.K.'s Daily Mirror and its Scottish version, The Daily Record, the Royal
One will give out over 2.5 million copies in the July 10th issues. Both papers
will also include Prince's first interview with a British publication in more than a
decade, in addition to hosting contests for concert tickets. Meanwhile, Belgium
and Germany will also have some very lucky readers in July. Belgium paper Het
Nieuwblad
will release the 10-track disc on July 10th, the same day that Prince will
hit the stage at the country's Werchter Fesitval. The German edition of Rolling
Stone
will also bless its readers with copies of 20Ten in its August issue, which
hits stands July 22nd. This isn't the first time he has used a media outlet to release
an album. In 2007, he teamed up with U.K. paper Mail on Sunday to distribute
his album Planet Earth. Plans for a stateside release of 20Ten have yet to be
revealed. We're not quite sure how our European counterparts got so lucky, but we're
definitely green with envy (and can't wait for the transatlantic hook up).
