On His 52nd Birthday, Prince Is Still One Sexy Mutha$!%@#

Today is Prince's birthday, and I unconsciously began celebrating his 52nd born day without realizing it. Last week I was convinced I was the last Prince fan on the planet who hadn't seen Under the Cherry Moon, so I watched it on Netflix and, well, let's just say I still love his Purple Majesty despite that bizarro film. I'm glad my mom shielded me from it long enough to allow my love for Prince to manifest into full-fledged stan love. But, for real, for real, that 24 year-old film was but a blip on the career timeline for Prince who has surpassed standard legendary status. With Purple Rain and more than a mere string of song classics, a legend like Prince can kirk out and do a movie like Under the Cherry Moon without it destroying a career when he has songs like "Adore," "The Beautiful Ones," "1999" and "When 2 R In Love" under his belt. Mainly, we don't trip because Prince fans know that he stays out-of-the-box. Even the song "Cause and Effect," which we heard earlier this year when New York Magazine posted it, alludes to the element of reinvention that is central to who Prince is.

What is super weird is realizing that he is now old enough to receive an AARP membership and can soon qualify to get discounts when ordering from IHOP. For someone who looks as young and appears as agile now as he did when he came onto the scene in the late '70s, Prince is really leading me to begin considering the benefits of partying like it's 1999.

If there was a chance that we wouldn't get sued for uploading a Prince song from his catalog, I would upload one of his in his honor. But since there is a very BIG chance that would happen, I am just going to ask all you SoulBouncers out there to tell us what your favorite Prince lyrics are. This is my favorite part from "Adore":

But I got 2 have your face all up in the place

I'd like 2 think that I'm a man of exquisite taste

Hundred percent Italian silk imported Egyptian lace

Nothin' baby, I said nothin' baby could compare

2 your lovely face

Any man who can put a line like "hundred percent Italian silk imported Egyptian lace" in arguably one of the best love songs of all time and make it work definitely illustrates why we have been grooving to his tunes for decades. Here's wishing him the best and hoping a new album is on its way to cap off this awesome year of music.
