'Tell Me You Love' This New Leela James Song

The big-voiced, big-haired, sassy spitfire that is Leela James is back this year with a new album on a new label. Yes, you may be experiencing a bit of deja vu since last year around this time we got similar news when she returned to the scene with Let's Do It Again on Shanachie Records. Although a solid album, the material didn't live up to Leela's incredible potential, which hopefully won't be the case on her upcoming June release, My Soul, her debut on legendary Stax Records, home to fellow belters N'dambi and Angie Stone. The lead single is the laidback groove "Tell Me You Love Me." Thanks to a clever sample of The Manhattans' "Then You Can Tell Me Goodbye," this song has a throwback vibe without sounding too worn, like her last album of covers tended to sound. Once the weather gets some Act Right, this'll be good riding-in-the-whip music.
