If you’ve paid attention to our digital pages, then you know that we at SoulBounce have a not-so-secret love affair with sensual singer-songwriter Sidibe. The performer has perfected her unique style of quiet storm-ready R&B throughout the years, all the while painting a picture of love and romance that always manages to leave us breathless. She’s now back after a nearly three-year break, and she’s bringing us more of the sound we love with her newest single “Summer Rain.”

Sidibe brings a bossa nova feel to her usual R&B musical formula this go ’round. It begins with gently strummed guitar that eventually builds to include drums, piano, lush backing vocals and even horns at one point. It’s all made to wrap around Sidibe’s delicate vocal, accenting her honeyed delivery with a welcoming intimacy.

Lyrically, the songstress plays coy as she sings of wanting to be near her beau with winking, veiled metaphors about weather and how it relates to how her lover makes her feel. “I wanna know / If the summer is gonna be stormy / Like I hope it will,” she sings in the opening verse. “You’re gonna call me / Say you’re wondering / If I’m feeling lonely / I shouldn’t feel lonely.”

That leads into the yearning chorus, with Sidibe on both lead and backing vocals singing with a sweetness that makes the listener wish we were still experiencing the enticing warmth that summer and love always bring.
