Beyoncé had her hive in a tizzy all summer long thanks to the release of her unearthed track “MORNING DEW (DONK)” and its subsequent remix EP. But the main event was always the re-release of her sophomore album B’DAY to commemorate the album’s 20th anniversary and celebrate the singer’s 45th birthday. Now the B’DAY 20th ANNIVERSARY DELUXE EDITION is here, and it brings with it a massive treasure of unreleased tracks, remixes and surprises.
The deluxe edition includes a remastered version of all the original B’DAY tracks, with a few additional cuts from the era like “CHECK ON IT” and few of the songs included on a previous deluxe edition. This time around, the songs are crisper, with a mix that sounds even better than when the set first dropped. But the real talk of the set are 17 additional tracks that have been incorporated.
Bey digs deep in her vault to finally give fans studio versions of long-beloved, previously unreleased cuts like “CREOLE,” “LOST YO MIND” and “BACK UP.” But she also brings a few surprises from the vault, including a Prince-inspired song with a nasty, freaky chorus called “CAN I WATCH YOU” that features Pharrell Williams.
Another major moment is “IRREEMPLAZABLE (COMO LA FLOR),” the Spanish-language version of “IRREPLACEABLE” that fuses it with the late Tejano star Selena’s “Como La Flor” and even includes vocals from Selena herself. Elsewhere is “CUERPO (TUMBAO),” a new Spanglish version of “GET ME BODIED” that features Maluma and samples Celia Cruz’s “La Negra Tiene Tumbao.” It’s a salsa-inspired jam at first before transitioning into something more modern as Bey does her best to channel the Queen of Salsa.
The B’DAY 20th ANNIVERSARY DELUXE EDITION is definitely one for the fans, and the Hive will be eating good with this one. Get buzzing and check it out below.
