After catching our attention with several EPs, Josh Levi made quite the splash when he dropped his debut album HYDRAULIC last year. The momentum from that release has carried him through 2026, with him headlining his own HYDRAULIC TOUR this past spring and even hitting the stage at this year’s ESSENCE Festival Of Culture. He’s keeping that momentum going by dropping his new single “SWERVE” and a full-throttle visual for the track.
“SWERVE” might take inspiration from driving, but the song is all about desire. To capture that feeling, the performer and producer Jack Rochon base the song around an insistent kick drum thump that gets the blood pumping. It then picks up the pace with spacy synths and a rumbling synth bass that give the song a melodic heart and soul to set off Josh’s sexy vocal.
Levi offers many driving-related metaphors as he talks about a girl who’s driving him wild with desire. He sings of being tempted to touch her all over as the temperature rises, especially making note that his hands will be on her hips at 10 and 2. But he gets to business on the chorus, singing, “Why you drive me / Drive me crazy? / Go ahead, baby, ooh / Swerve my way, please / Lose control of it, ooh.”
The visualizer takes the driving metaphor to the next level. It features Josh and two stacked dancers cutting up at what appears to be a raceway. The trio cut more than a few dance steps throughout the clip, showcasing that Josh is quite the performer. But he also continues to make his case for sex symbol status in looks that show off his physique while giving us all the whip appeal we can handle.
“SWERVE” arrives as talk of a deluxe edition of HYDRAULIC is set to release later this year, though no definite date has been shared just yet. Whenever it does materialize, we’re positive that “SWERVE” will be a highlight on the upcoming project.
