After a three-year wait that seemed like forever, Victoria Monét is finally ready to follow up her GRAMMY-winning breakout album JAGUAR II. Her new album is titled Frequency Of Love, and it will be released this fall on her label Lovett Music/RCA Records. We’ve already had a tease of what’s coming early this year when the singer released the romantic cut “Let Me.” She now brings us another single from the set with “Reach Out.”
Victoria brings the heat this time by uniting in-demand producers D’Mile and Kaytranada on the cut. Their two styles meet in the middle, with Kaytra’s signature bump adding the spice and D’Mile’s silky smooth R&B giving us a memorable melody. In essence, it feels like the evolution of her viral single “Alright” while also keeping a timeless feel.
Adding to that feel are the lyrics, which center on Victoria trying to close the gap in a relationship that she and a lover have been dancing around for quite some time. She sings of wishing that their busy lives would eventually collide to spark the flame of romance throughout the verses and bridge. But it’s the chorus that gives us the call to action.
“When’s the last time that you (Reach out) / Probably been for (Ever),” she sings. “But I like when you (Reach out) / Don’t have me wait for (Forever).”
The “Reach Out” visual also sees her connecting with previous collaborators. This time it’s legendary video director Dave Meyers and visionary choreographer Sean Bankhead. The three collaborate to create a sepia-toned affair that captures an early ’90s flair. Victoria plays fashion plate as she rocks several body-hugging numbers with fascinating embellishments while performing for the camera.
Flocking her are several dancers who move fluently to create intriguing shapes around the singer. The ever-capable Bankhead infuses the choreography with elements of voguing and elegant, feline movements that look fierce on Victoria and company, keeping us watching and wanting to see more.
If Victoria Monét is on this type of time for the rest of Frequency Of Love, then we think that she might have another big one on her hands.
