Sy’Rai is truly finding her shine this year. The singer-songwriter, who just so happens to be the daughter of the legendary artist Brandy, has been slowly making her way to the forefront by dropping a few singles over the years. But this year, she made her biggest splash thus far with her sexy single “Late Night” last month. That one explored the budding singer’s desire to spend some one-on-one time with a beau after hours. Now she’s exploring the other side of love with the heartbreak track “Bullseye (Nice Shot).”
Sy’Rai is feeling more than a little bitter on the song as she sits in a sound bed of programmed drums, subtle synths and meticulously layered backing vocals courtesy of producer Stephon Wimberly. It allows her to get her feelings out as she questions the behavior and motives of not only her soon-to-be ex-flame, but men in general as she sings, “Why, oh why, do you n****s act this way? / Waste your time making empty promises / Why, oh why, are you n****s all the same? / First you’re all in / Then go switching up on me.” She does offer one compliment, though, as she congratulates him on his aim in breaking her heart.
“‘Bullseye’ is about that moment when you realize the person you loved hurt you in a way you never imagined,” the singer said in a press release. “It’s about feeling blindsided, questioning everything, and learning how to pick yourself back up. I hope people hear this song and know they’re not alone in what they’re feeling.”
