Tems’ “What You Need” has staying power. The Love Is A Kingdom single has been floating around since the EP’s November 2025 release and has continued to gain ground over the past few months after impressive performances on COLORS and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. With the song climbing higher on the charts, Tems keeps the momentum going by releasing a music video for the intense ballad.
She goes through a range of emotions and feelings in the Ayinde Anderson-directed visual for “What You Need.” The black-and-white clip starts with striking imagery of Tems struggling to pull a tall stack of luggage to signify the baggage that she’s carrying. The scene switches to her looking troubled and stressed out at a dining table before she starts throwing dishes and tearing at the walls.
We watch Tems go from having a breakdown to having a breakthrough as she sings, “I’m finally out the dark,” and the black-and-white picture is replaced with color. It’s at this point that she cracks a warm smile and finally looks at peace for the remainder of the video.
Though Tems is staying mum about the status of her sophomore album and when to expect the follow-up to Born In The Wild, she’s continuing to give fans just what they need with “What You Need.”
