Songstress Ravyn Lenae will whisk us away to her Blue Island this August. Her latest album will see her mixing even more genres into her eclectic sound, with singles “Bobby,” “Reputation” and “Handle” giving us pop, punk and R&B. Another common thread with the singles has been her discussing love and complicated relationships, which continues with the album’s fourth single “Saturday Night.”
As with the other singles, Ravyn is leaning more into the pop side of things, with this one feeling like a lost track from the early to mid-’90s. She once again turns to Dahi for production on the track, which he does with assistance from fellow producers Alissia and Ely Rise. They give her a sound that relies heavily on drum machines and programmed synths. The balance of light and heavy in the sound perfectly balances each other, which allows the singer to play with expectations in the song’s lyrics.
“Saturday Night” is all about a situationship that Ravyn wants to leave in the past. However, when she sees him at a party, the pull of whatever it is between them is hard for her to ignore. The song’s verses find her commenting rather honestly about what’s going through her head, with her admitting that she does, indeed, want him closer and to continue the thing they have going.
But the chorus has her attempting to strengthen her resolve. “Say you miss me on a Saturday night / But I’m still leaving without you / I’m in here looking like the time of your life / But I’m still leaving without you,” she sings. “Spin my head around / By the morning, I’ll be coming down / I know you miss me on a Saturday night / But I’m still leaving without you.”
She might intend to leave her situationship on “Saturday Night,” but you’ll be able to spend several nights with Ravyn Lenae this fall. That’s because she’s set to go on her Blue Island Live Tour in support of her album starting in September. And she won’t be going alone, as she’s invited up-and-comers Q, Nourished By Time and Lexa Gates along for the ride.
The 22-city tour will kick off in Sacramento on September 15th, just over a month after Blue Island is released. From there, the singer will crisscross all over North America with dates in several major cities — including Las Vegas, Chicago, D.C., New York, Toronto, Atlanta, Dallas and Phoenix. The trek will then wrap up in the state it began in with a closing show in Los Angeles on October 21st.
