Life came at Muni Long fast in 2025.
One day, she was opening for Brandy and Monica on their iconic The Boy Is Mine Tour, and the next, she had to leave the tour due to illness. Fans assumed that she was sick because of lupus, which she’s battled for years. However, as Long shared this week on Good Morning America in an interview with Robin Roberts, she’d actually caught a severe case of pneumonia while on tour. It was so severe that she required a double lung transplant, and doctors gave her one week to live. Jarred by that prognosis and faced with her mortality, the GRAMMY Award-winning star and mother to a young son went ahead with the operation. Muni is now six months post-op and feeling more like herself again as she continues to recover. With that ordeal behind her, she’s getting her groove back with her new single “Richest.”
Executive produced by Tricky Stewart and the last song she recorded before her surgery, “Richest” is Muni’s first solo release of 2026 and the follow-up to her single “Delulu.” After being a little crazy in love on that track, she comes to realize what really matters in love. She reflects on the trials and tribulations she’s been through in her previous relationship, and, though she’s a bit jaded, she has found something that money can’t buy.
Muni lets the one who’s turned her love and life around know just what they mean to her on the snappy chorus. “I admit that I was lost until I found you / You’re my platinum, my diamonds, my silver, my gold / My emeralds, my rubies, my heart and my soul,” she sings. “Your love is worth a fortune, yeah, every day is growing interest / Every time you give me kisses, I feel like I’m the richest.”
“This song is pure love to me,” Muni wrote on Instagram when the “Richest” went live. “Being rich can apply to ANYTHING. The love for your mother or father, your significant other, your children, your friends…that’s what I like most about it.”
In the visual for “Richest,” director Brandon Silvero of Lunchbox Films leans into the song’s romantic relationship aspect. Filmed in a home-movie style, the cameras follows Muni and her love interest, played by slick-talking rapper Akeem Ali, around. Muni and Akeem have great chemistry together as they live and love on each other. We get scenes of them in their happy home, having fun at an arcade, enjoying the sunset, frolicking in bed and sharing many tender moments. The clip ends with them professing their love for one another, and it feels like the real thing.
