Lucky Daye is changing things up with his career, it seems. The crooner, who we heard from last on his 2024 set Algorithm, has switched his label home from RCA Records and minted a new deal with Warner Records. And with this new deal comes new music, with Lucky dropping his latest single “Nowhere Fast.”
He might have switched labels, but he’s keeping one part of his core formula: in-demand producer D’Mile. The two have a chemistry that just works, and nothing’s changed on “Nowhere Fast.” D’Mile creates a stripped-back sound that feels moody and haunting, with a heavy focus on programmed drums, rumbling synth bass and other synth flourishes to keep the vibe going.
Lucky uses the track to give a message to women dealing with dudes who might not be aware of their worth in a society pressuring them to rush through life and love. And though the singer is giving this advice while also still shooting his shot, it doesn’t make it any less important to take in.
“They turn the heat up / They wanna make you speed up now / They wanna keep your foot on the gas, foot on the gas / Goin’ nowhere fast,” he warns on the song’s chorus. “Baby, let’s turn the heat up / Sometimes you gotta take it slow / But we gon’ keep our foot on the gas, foot on the gas
That’s how we turn time back.”
“We live in a world that’s constantly telling us to move faster,” Lucky said in a press release about the song. “But sometimes real growth happens when you slow down and move with intention. That’s what ‘Nowhere Fast’ is about — being present, trusting your pace, and not losing sight of what actually matters.”
Instead of pushing the song’s message in its visual, Lucky goes for a sexy, visually interesting treatment. He’s surrounded by beautiful women who dance provocatively throughout the clip, though they are admittedly more clothed than many of the video vixens in years past. The same can’t be said about Lucky, though. He spends most of the clip showing off his physique and new hairstyle to stylish effect.
With Lucky Daye already popping up as a featured artist on songs by Rory, Tank And The Bangas and Teyana Taylor and now dropping “Nowhere Fast,” we have a sneaking suspicion that he might have something on the horizon. We’re happy to wait to hear this from Lucky himself, but we’d be lying if we said we didn’t have our hopes up.
