Infinity Song has become known for their folk-rock sound since emerging onto the scene. But recently, it seems that the sibling quartet has been revamping and redefining their sound. The culmination of this experimentation is their newly released self-titled album. The set finds them foregoing folk to lean into textures of soft rock, alternative and even a little R&B. One of the songs from the project that exemplifies this slight shift in their style is “Sayonara,” which they have chosen to be next in line for the visualizer treatment.
“Sayonara” might mean goodbye in Japanese, but the song itself isn't about parting ways. It’s instead about succumbing to wanderlust only to realize that what you wanted was back at home. So after their love set them free to see the world, they’ve come back to close the distance they created.
“So I’m tail tucked, head hung / Trying to close this distance / Getting back, that’s where I’m at,” they sing on the chorus. “Can you leave the porch light on? / I want to come home / Getting back, that’s where I'm at."
Like previous clips for singles “Hurricane” and “One Foot Out,” the visualizer focuses on the group’s musicality. That, of course, means that there are plenty of shots of each member playing instruments and harmonizing together. But the clip’s best moments are when they give into the song’s rock sensibilities, adding in some visual distortion and moody, cinematic shots that buzz with energy and verve.
Infinity Song once again gives the Boyd siblings a showcase for their talent and undeniable artistry. It also proves that the group, who are already known for clever lyrics and tight harmonies, can also handle adding some edge to their sound. The album feels as if the artists are at their most free, with songs like “Break Out,” “Stranger Danger” and “Blossom” standing out among the bunch.
If you were wondering where Infinity Song would go next, this album shows that they have the potential to take their artistry anywhere they would like to go.
