Fana Hues Wonders If She’ll ‘Recognize’ Love When She Sees It

It’s about time for a new Fana Hues album. The singer-songwriter has released a project every other year since debuting in 2020 with Hues. In 2022, she delivered flora + fana and dropped Moth in 2024, so she’s right on schedule for another LP this year. Fana teases a potential new album with the release of her new single “Recognize.”

The song is a lovely slice of pop/R&B crafted by Fana and production duo Mulherin, which consists of twin brothers Marshall Mulherin and Parker Mulherin. The brothers craft a piano- and synth-driven number that pairs well with larger-than-life drums to create the song’s mood. The fellas also co-penned the track with Fana, with lyrics that find her feeling skeptical about whether the one saying they love her really means it.

The verses act as a conversation, during which Fana makes her doubts plain as she lets it be known that she’s heard it all before. Basically, you’re going to have to show her rather than tell her to let her know it’s real.

“There’s something I’m missing, right? / Been looking, I don’t think I’d recognize (love),” she sings on the chorus. “If it was close enough to hit me / Or take a walk with me / I don’t think I'd recognize / Think I’d recognize.”

Fana hasn’t released an official video for the track yet, but she does show the themes that might be explored in one with the song’s visualizer. In it, we see a fabulously styled Fana sit inside a boat on set as she casts a line into an imaginary sea. It seems that she might be fishing for love, but all she ends up with is a piece of mirror and a reflection of herself.

Fana Hues has once again caught us in her spell with “Recognize.” We look forward to hearing more from her — and finding out if our suspicions about a new album being on the way this year are true — in the months to come.
