Erykah Badu is going back on tour with The Alchemist, and they’re taking some friends along for the ride this time. Those friends just so happen to be hip-hop legends De La Soul and contemporary rapper/singer Smino, who’ll take turns joining Badu and Al on select dates.
Almost a year to the day after announcing their Badu and Alchemist Present: Abi + Alan LUV IZ...Tour last June, the collaborators are readying the Erykah Badu + The Alchemist Present: Live Tour for September. The tour begins on September 10th at the Ravinia Festival in Illinois before it visits several markets in North America. Cities on the routing include Detroit, Toronto, Cleveland, Queens, Indianapolis, Denver, San Diego and Berkeley. The final show will go down at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on September 29th with Erykah headlining Lauren Halsey’s emajendat concert event.
De La Soul is on board for the first seven shows of the tour while Smino will join in San Diego and Berkeley. For the L.A. show, special guests include Anderson .Paak as DJ Pee Wee and Charles Gaines Collective featuring Black Nile.
Though we’re getting new tour dates from Erykah Badu and The Alchemist’s, their joint album Abi & Alan is still in limbo. The set was expected to drop sometime last year after they released the single “Next To You,” but the duo haven’t indicated when — or if — it’ll actually arrive.
While we await an update on the status of their project, there’s no waiting to purchase tickets to see Badu and the boys performing live come September, though. Tickets to attend the Erykah Badu + The Alchemist Present: Live Tour are on sale now via Badu World Market and Erykah Badu’s website.
