It’s Chakzilla season for Chaka Khan. The i-Khan introduced fans to her upcoming new album with the project’s title track in May, and she’s keeping the rollout rolling with the latest single “Boogie’s In My Soul.” As the title suggests, Chaka is getting down on the track, and her dance partner in crime is rapper Snoop Dogg.
Like the lead single “Chakzilla,” “Boogie’s In My Soul” is produced by Greg Kurstin and co-written by hitmaking pop star Sia, who collaborated on it with Kurstin, Chaka and Snoop. The new song also features a similar dance pop sound, albeit with a little more funk and an infectious groove, making it a good fit for the two artists.
The first voice we hear is Snoop Dogg, who calls out to her. “Chaka Khan, if you came to party, I came to party, come on,” he says twice. She responds by grabbing the mic and wastes no time getting her groove on. “Oh, I’m sweating to the beat / I’m dancing in the street / Got myself feeling sweet / Come dance right here with me,” Khan sings.
The 73-year-old diva is lost in the music, but you can find her on the floor and she wants everyone to join her. “The music gets so loud / I’m dancing on a cloud / I’m dancing for my life / Come dance with me tonight,” she belts on the chorus.
Snoop pops back in with a verse on the bridge and to namecheck her again. “Drop a bomb, it’s Chaka Khan / Don’t be alarmed if you came to party / I came to party, now get it on,” he smoothly commands. He contributes some ad-libs for the rest of the track, but this is Chaka’s time to shine. Her vocals sound amazing, and she even adds a few of her signature wails in the background.
Chaka and Snoop are outside in the music video for “Boogie’s In My Soul.” They pull up to an outdoor soireé and bring the funk to the function. The young folks in attendance greet the legends with applause as the DJ drops the needle on their record. That’s when the party starts, and people groove, dance and otherwise boogie the night away while they perform.
“Boogie’s In My Soul” is the second single and track number two on the Chakzilla tracklist. The 10-song collection promises more jams to put the boogie in your oogie and additional guest features from Sia and legendary rocker Lenny Kravitz.
