You’ve likely heard Stokley’s voice all over your timelines in recent years thanks to his former group Mint Condition’s songs “Breakin’ My Heart (Pretty Brown Eyes)” and “So Fine” going viral. It’s always great to hear one of our favorite voices singing those ’90s R&B classics while we’re scrolling, but there’s honestly nothing like hearing him sing live. If you know, you know, but if you haven’t had the pleasure yet, watching his performance on Live From The Front Porch is the next best thing.
Instead of reliving the ’90s, Stokley decided to bring his solo tracks to life during his high-energy Front Porch set. Before he made his grand entrance, his two background singers/dancers dramatically exited the home’s front door to join the band, who was already on the lawn jamming.
The first selection of Stokley’s set was a brand-new song entitled “Drive.” He added a twist to his performance by starting it inside the house and popping his head out of a window to sing. He finished his windowsill serenade before coming outside onto the porch, dropping it low and hitting a spin.
Though he only sang a snippet of “Drive,” Stokley dished out a healthy helping of soul for his second song “She...” and even added some go-go into the mix for this live rendition. The front lawn was his stage, and he made use of the large outdoor space as he got into the groove, danced, belted out the song and carried on with the background vocalists.
After working up a sweat in the sunshine, Stokley slowed the tempo down for his final song “Need Love.” The track is his latest single, in which he expresses to his lady that he needs her love now more than ever in the midst of the daily chaos of this world. Stokley shared a message in his music and ended his set with these parting words, “Need love. Take care of one another, y’all.” He didn’t drop the mic at the end of his performance, but he most certainly could have.
Stokley and co. put on quite a show in less than 15 minutes. His showmanship, range, fitness, creativity and command of the mic were fully on display for all to see. If you’d like to see more of Stokley performing live, be sure to catch him on tour.
