Hil St. Soul opens a new musical chapter after closing a personal one. The artist born Hilary Mwelwa’s sixth album Nasalifya (Thank You) was crafted in tribute to her father, who passed away in 2024. She took time to reflect after she laid him to rest, redirected her energy into creating music with executive producer Regi Myrix and dedicated this album to the man who instilled her passion for music. That intention and influence are heard throughout Nasalifya (Thank You), which SoulBounce is happy to debut in an exclusive world premiere.
Lead single “Back In Tha Day” opens the album on a feel-good, nostalgic note. The “Good Vibes” continue as Hil shares an inspirational message filled with positivity and encouragement, a sentiment that carries over into the cut “Vibrate Higher,” a duet with singer Lina Loi. She imparts more wisdom and affirmations on “Better With Time,” encouraging listeners to stay strong and keep on keeping on.
Alongside those songs about personal growth, Hil delves into the ups and downs of relationships elsewhere on the LP. She’s in a romantic mood on “Trip” and wants to take a fantastic voyage with her lover, living out their fantasies. Soul celebrates her significant other on “With You” and how sweet life is with them. Those blissful feelings are short-lived, however, on the tracks “Can’t Get Over You” (where she’s pining for an ex), “I’m Done” (where she’s about to make someone her ex) and “Roll On” (where she makes up her mind to leave and find the love she deserves).
Hil takes a moment at the album’s midpoint to make a statement about the state of the world on “The System Is So Broken.” In the tradition of Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On,” the song is as powerful as it is soulful. The album ends with the title track “Nasalifya.” Hil reflects on life once again and has an attitude of gratitude for everything she’s experienced.
“I’m excited about the musical landscape that Regi Myrix and I have created. The sonics, production and message in the music on this album are really quite different from my other album projects,” Hil St. Soul shared via press release. “There is growth and evolution. There is a consistency in the movement and a seamless progression of the album. I honestly believe every track on this album deserves to be on there. This project was a labor of love. I’ve poured my heart and soul into it.”
Like a fine wine, Hil St. Soul’s voice and music keeps getting better with time. Nasalifya (Thank You) is some of her best work to date. The project is another exceptional album from the British soul star and a fine addition to her rock solid catalog.
