Omarion just wrapped the Boys 4 Life Tour, which featured the buzzworthy reunion of his group B2K, but he’s not taking any days off. Though we have to wait a little longer for their comeback album to materialize, the multihyphenate artist has turned his attention back to rolling out his forthcoming set O2. After releasing the singles “For War” and “Fantasy” over the past few months, he delivers the latest taste of his next project with the track “The One” and its dance-heavy music video.

Featuring production by Nathan Butts and Azul Wynter, “The One” rides a nostalgic wave to the early aughts with a sample of Snoop Dogg, Pharrell Williams and Charlie Wilson’s 2002 jam “Beautiful.” Flipped into a feel-good R&B groove, similar to “Beautiful,” the lyrics are filled with Omarion sweet-talking the woman who has all his attention and affection.

“I need you to know that / You’re the one that holds a place in my heart from the start / Let me controlla / If you let me love you, we will never be apart / As soon as we start to uhh, uhh, uhh,” the singer croons to his girl on the infectious chorus.

With such an upbeat bop of a song, you know Omarion had to come correct with the visual for “The One.” Directed by Anthony Kimata, the video begins with an aerial shot of New York City while a radio-style voiceover from The Breakfast Club co-host Jess Hilarious is heard. The camera comes down to street level and catches up with O and his crew outside as they encounter some cuties and a large group of dancers. Omarion can’t help himself, of course, and joins the dancers to show them how it’s done.

He two-steps off with an NYC PYT before the scene changes to what’s supposed to be Chicago. Omarion, who’s now rocking a Chicago Bulls jersey, links up with another beauty and breaks out into more group choreography at another outdoor hang.

The location changes once more when he pulls up in a lowrider somewhere in Los Angeles. Now back on his home turf, he has some special passengers riding with him — his son Megaa Grandberry and daughter A’mei Grandberry. They all exit the whip, and O hits more dance steps with everyone gathered around. He finds a honey in a Dodgers jacket who becomes his dance partner before leading this group of dancers in doing The One Shuffle, a line dance that has all the makings of the next viral sensation.

Between the song and video, Omarion is in his sweet spot on “The One.” The throwback vibes suit him well across the board.
