Jungle Is Ready To Make Us Dance Again With ‘The Wave’

Summer has unofficially started, and we’re in need of some jams to carry through the season as the days begin to heat up. That’s where our British friends Jungle come into play. The trio, who wowed the world in 2023 with their phenomenal album Volcano, is still on course to release their upcoming album Sunshine this August after giving us the lead single “Carry On.” And just when we thought our anticipation for the project couldn’t get any higher, they’ve dropped their latest single “The Wave” and given us the first visual from the set with the song’s music video.

“The Wave” is a groovy cut that ups the tempo from “Carry On” significantly. In fact, it could almost be considered a disco track with its quick-paced drums, melodic guitar riffs and the constant shake of tambourines. That’s paired with the same hypnotic harmonies that are a signature of Jungle cuts, leading to a deliciously layered cut that’s made to get you moving.

Lyrically, it’s poetic as ever, with lead vocalist Lydia Kitto singing of a love that might be losing its spark. Rather than giving up, though, she’s ready to start things all over again to preserve the good thing they’ve already got going. “Oh, don’t you cry, we’ve got it all / Don’t you worry / We can find our way through the dark,” she sings on the chorus. “We’ve got it all, don’t you worry / We can take it back to the start.”

The song’s visual takes us to a gas station that looks to be in the middle of a desert. There, we see dancer and Jungle video mainstay Will West, who takes over the choreographer duties this go ’round. He’s brought a new batch of friends along for the ride, and they share some super smooth moves that are beyond impressive. There doesn’t seem to be the same narrative throughline that the videos from the Volcano cycle had, but there seems to be clues of a continuing theme as the clip ends with what appears to be another set of dancers waiting in the wings.

With Jungle back in fine form on “The Wave” and Sunshine set to release on Friday, August 14th, it looks and sounds like this is going to be one hot summer.
