For more than 50 years, musical excellence has been summed up in three words: Earth, Wind & Fire. The group and their legendary legacy are a great part of modern music history that doesn't always get discussed. That will change this June, when the documentary Earth, Wind & Fire (To Be Celestial vs. The Way Of The World) debuts on HBO.

The documentary is the latest from The Roots drummer and Academy Award-winning director Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson and will focus on the prolific band’s impact through the lens of the group’s late founding member Maurice White. The story will be told utilizing archival footage, audio and written material to expand the band’s beginnings and their eventual evolution as their sound expanded through genres while incorporating cosmic, astrological and spiritual messages and themes into their music.

The project will include interviews with band members Verdine White, Philip Bailey and Ralph Johnson as they speak on their life and times with EWF. They’ll be joined by artists who the band influenced and fans whose hearts they’ve touched over the years, including appearances by President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, H.E.R., Lionel Richie, Flea, Stevie Wonder, Anderson .Paak, Jimmy Jam and more.

For anyone with an affinity for Earth, Wind & Fire or anyone with a love of music in general, this documentary looks to be a must-see event. Earth, Wind & Fire (To Be Celestial vs. The Way Of The World) will premiere on HBO on Thursday, June 7th at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT. It will also be available to stream on HBO Max on the same day.
