Zo! & Tall Black Guy’s Expansions DMV album release show at the historic Publick Playhouse in Landover, Maryland, was more than a concert; it was a cause for celebration. The official kickoff to their 2026 Expansions Tour was not only sold out but also the largest audience they had played to date. It was a great look for the musical maestros after receiving universally positive reviews for their second collaborative compilation album that dropped in February. Their DMV fans came out in droves to support and were rewarded with one hell of a show.
The duo was accompanied by featured vocalist Debórah Bond, with bassist Brandon Lane and drummer Biscuit Bynum rounding out the live players. Bond, who contributed to both Expansions and the deluxe edition of their 2021 debut Abstractions, had the Herculean task of singing all the vocals at the show, and she made it look effortless like the professional she is.
Debórah sounded phenomenal from the first song — the sassy single “Keep Him Satisfied,” featuring Sy Smith — to the last — the hypnotizing house groove “Find My Way Back,” taking over for Nicholas Ryan Gant. In between, the extensive setlist showcased numerous joints from Expansions, a handful of crowd favorites from Abstractions, a cut from Bora’s new album Naomi’s Finest and tracks from Zo!’s SunStorm and ManMade albums. The selections were tight and flowed together as flawlessly as everyone on stage performed.
When it came time for the final song, it was hard to keep people in their seats. Many started dancing in the aisles, and at the show’s end, everyone came to their feet to give the group a well-deserved standing ovation.
The Expansions Tour follows Zo! & Tall Black Guy’s Abstractions Tour, which went on for three years and proved to be the gift that kept on giving. Their latest tour may just be getting started, but we expect them to do some major jamage on the road for quite a while and can’t wait to experience this live show again and again.
