Tems was invited back to The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon this week for a three-peat. Following appearances in 2021 to perform with Wizkid and her solo debut in 2024, the superstar Nigerian sonstress pulled up to 30 Rock to perform her latest hit song “What You Need.”
The third time was the charm for Tems. Of all of her Tonight Show performances, she delivered her most stunning to date. She looked regal in a white gown and sounded resplendent as she sang the Love Is A Kingdom single. Backed by her band, who were mostly hidden behind a sheer white curtain, Tems had everyone’s undivided attention.
She simply stood at the mic and conveyed the song’s intense emotions through her vocals. Starting tender and intimate before becoming powerful and defiant, this was, quite frankly, the best we’ve ever heard Tems sound. Not just singing “What You Need,” but period.
Jimmy Fallon must have thought so, too. “Oh, my God! Yes!” he gushed at the end of Tems’ performance as he rushed on stage to greet her. “The best!”
