Ari Lennox is currently entertaining fans across the country on her Vacancy Tour. In between West Coast dates, she recently pulled up to New York City to perform “Mobbin In DC” on The Kelly Clarkson Show.
“Mobbin In DC” opens her latest album Vacancy and kicks the LP off on a sultry note. Performing this particular song on daytime TV was a choice, as it’s probably better suited for late-night television audiences, but Ari gave viewers quite an afternoon delight.
She brought a taste of the Vacancy Tour to The Kelly Clarkson Show stage, which was bathed in red and purple lights to set a visual tone that matched the track's sexy vibe. Accompanied by her two background singers and backed by the show’s house band, Lennox showcased her lovely live vocals during this short but oh-so sweet performance.
Ari spent more time chatting with Kelly Clarkson during her interview segment. She changed out of the long coat, sheer blouse and mini-skirt in shades of brown that she sang in into a tailored black-and-white plaid jacket, black hot pants and sheer black stockings that showed off her legs. Kelly complimented Ari’s ’fit and flow, and the conversation went off on a bit of a tangent before landing on Vacancy.
”It’s about that void that needs to be filled, whether romantic or platonic,” Ari said about the project’s theme. Kelly then asked her about “Mobbin In DC,” and the R&B singer lit up.
“That’s my baby. It’s the intro to the album,” Lennox gushed. “I love neo-soul. I grew up listening to it. I adore legends like Erykah Badu, Ledisi, just phenomenal singer. I just wanted to be true to myself on a beautiful beat, and I wanted to shout out my city D.C. Love you, D.C.!” she said with a wide smile.
Before Kelly went to a commercial, she plugged Ari’s new album and tour. “Nothing is better than seeing and feeling something live in person,” Clarkson stated. With that said, make sure not to miss Ari Lennox on any of her remaining Vacancy Tour dates.
