Tank And The Bangas has been in the lab crafting the follow-up to their GRAMMY Award-winning, spoken word-focused 2024 album The Heart, The Mind, The Soul. The New Orleans-based collective is now ready to unveil their next masterpiece, the upcoming full-length LP The Last Balloon. They’re announcing the album in grand fashion with the release of lead single “Move,” which features their fellow hometown artist Lucky Daye.
“Move” continues in the slick, soulful sound that the group played with on past songs like “Why Try.” The track’s quick-paced, syncopated rhythm, melodic arrangement and joyful vibe are inviting, as are the vocal performances from frontwoman Tarriona “Tank” Ball and Lucky.
Tank takes her usual poetic approach as she turns in a seductive performance, singing on the opening verse, “Flowers in my garden / Bring toys to my room / Kids to jump the rope with / Don’t you leave too soon.”
Lucky, meanwhile, plays off her words on his verse, promising to bring water to her flowers while giving her a chance for a thunderstorm. Both verses bring us to the silky smooth and simple chorus, on which Tank wants to “move closer to you” with a beautiful melody.
The song’s video captures the group in their truest form as they perform live as a special surprise for a fella and his very grateful lady. The couple — which includes P-Valley star Brandee Evans — dances the night away to the track as Tank and Lucky croon in bright, sparkling outfits while the rest of the band lays down the groove.
“Move” is only a taste of what’s to come on The Last Balloon, which will be the final album in the group’s Balloon trilogy following 2019’s Green Balloon and 2022’s Red Balloon. The set boasts a 13-song tracklist and features from fellow NOLA natives Dawn Richard, Ledisi, Jelly Joseph, HaSizzle and Daye. Alongside them will be other guests Shirazee, Akeem Ali, David Shaw and Austin Brown, who produced “Move” and serves as the executive producer of the entire project.
