This looks to be a year of musical returns, with many artists choosing 2026 to mark their comeback. One name that we’re happy to see in that number is Toronto’s own Glenn Lewis. The crooner, who first made his mark in 2002 with his debut album World Outside My Window and was last heard from on the solo tip on 2013’s Moment Of Truth, has popped up sporadically over the past 13 years on projects like The PLAYlist’s Chasing Goosebumps and his two-song Christmas EP This Christmas With Glenn Lewis. It seems that he’s is finally ready to get back to things on the solo tip with the release of his new single “Past Tense.”

The song continues Glenn’s tradition of giving us smooth, romantic soul as he encourages a woman to move beyond a man who’s not meeting her needs. Helping him do this is producer Seige Monstracity, who manages to play within the mode of the singer’s previous work while giving him a modern R&B feel. That’s all that Glenn needs to slide right into his pocket on the track.

His vocals are still in fine form, making it easy for him to sweet talk the subject of the song with a few well-timed facts. “Ain’t like you ain’t give that man a chance / I think it’s time you should give someone who can,” he sings. “Can show you more and that understands / And ready for the kind of love only a man / Can give to you.”

The chorus goes further into instructing her to leave that man alone and let Glenn show her what real love could be. “Doesn’t make sense that you / Waiting ’til he know,” he sings. “He on the fence, it’s past tense / Let’s see where this go.”

If the object of his affection isn’t sure about what to do, we know that we will be bumping this track. It seems that it’s the first of more to come, with Glenn planning to release a new album this summer via his independent label Reimagery, Inc. The singer-songwriter is playing coy with a title and firm release date for the set, but we have a feeling that it will be coming sooner rather than later.

Until then, welcome Glenn Lewis back by running up the stream of "Past Tense" and watching him captivate the camera in the song's official visualizer below.
