Has the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul finally met her forever king? After going through a nasty, high-profile divorce a few years ago, Mary J. Blige has found love again and is happily boo’d up. Her mystery man stays out of the spotlight, but that’s not stopping Mary from singing his praises on her new single “More Than A Lover.”
Mary has fallen for a real one, and she can’t help but let the world know. After we hear a piano intro and producer Camper’s signature “Welcome to the Camp” tag, she shares a few reasons why he has her heart.
“It’s been a while, and he’s still opening my door / His sense of humor, I’m addicted, I want more,” she sings on the first verse. On the second verse, she marvels, “He came in and around started rocking with me automatic chemistry / Did something to me / He gives me satisfaction, that’s his guarantee.”
She breaks it down on the chorus just how much he means to her. “My man, my friend, my rider, my n***a, my lover / So tight, so real, my family, way closer than a brother,” Blige croons. “And no matter what it is, I can come running for some comfort / My man, my friend, my rider, my n***a / Way more than a lover, way more than a lover, way more than a lover, way more than a lover.”
At the end of the track, Mary even includes some hidden bonus content. After the piano outro fades out, we hear about a 20-second snippet of her singing another new song that has our interest piqued.
We kinda like Mary J. Blige in love because it appears that she’s being generous with the jams.
