Ella Mai has been on her grind since at least late 2024, when she dropped her short and sweet three-song EP 3. Unbeknownst to us, that project planted the seeds for what was to come on her third studio album Do You Still Love Me?, which continues her exploration of love in all its facets. The British singer spent the latter part of last year teasing the project with singles “Tell Her,” “100” and “Little Things” — a track previously featured on 3. Now, the full album is finally available, and Ella uses it to take us on a journey through love.
The LP’s 14 tracks are heavy on the ballads, with only a handful of cuts approaching a faster tempo. That approach gives Ella an opportunity to showcase her vocals. And, of course, the set has its fair share of standouts outside of the previously mentioned singles.
“My Mind” has an old school, hip-hop soul feel thanks to slick production featuring a piano and drum loop that serves as the melodic heart of the song. Mai, meanwhile, plays lovestruck as she sings of a man who has blown her mind and plunged her deeper in love.
“Somebody’s Son” takes us back to smitten territory as she sings about being in love real bad with a man whose mama raised him right and made him the perfect man for her. “I’m weak for somebody’s son / And I swear that man get anything he want from,” she sings on the chorus. “Me, tryna show him some / He got me doin’ things I ain’t never done now.”
She drops into a more modern sound courtesy of her longtime collaborator Mustard on the slinky and sexy “Bonus.” Over the wobble of electronic bass and drums reminiscent of ’90s era Timbaland, the songstress sets the scene for a late-night rendezvous that’s sure to be steamy.
Do You Still Love Me? doesn’t necessarily break the mold and not every song here is a winner. But Ella Mai does offer a charm throughout that makes the collection at least worth a listen.
