Ego Ella May has big plans for 2026. The British singer-songwriter teased her upcoming sophomore album last year by dropping two new singles — the romantic number “What We Do” and the socially conscious tune “We’re Not Free.” Now, Ego is kicking the album cycle into high gear by announcing its title and release date. The set, titled Good Intentions, will arrive this March. And to give us even more reason to anticipate its arrival, she’s also dropped the set’s third single “What You Waiting For.”
This new cut is probably the liveliest of what we’ve heard from Good Intentions thus far. That’s because Ego and her co-producer Tom Excell imbue “What You Waiting For” with a broken beat sound that moves and writhes against jazzy instrumentation and her own chilled vocal.
Ego, meanwhile, uses the song as a means to light a fire within her as she created the album. That can be heard in the song’s lyrics. “In another life, desire moves you / Quickening spirit / It becomes true,” she sings at one point. “See yourself as one beheld by magic / Atomic habit / A logic proved.” She continues her thoughts on the chorus, utilizing the chorus to ask herself the song’s titular question.
“‘What You Waiting For’ is one of my favorite songs to play live, this song is so fun! But it holds a deeper meaning about living life NOW, and about presence,” the singer said in a press release. “Quite simply, don’t wait! The time is now.”
