We don’t know about you, but we still can’t wrap our minds around the fact that D’Angelo is now an ancestor. The man born Michael Eugene Archer was more than a pioneer of neo soul and a member of The Soulquarians collective. A generational talent, he embodied Black music and achieved legendary status during his career. D’Angelo left us with an iconic body of work, including three classic albums — 1995’s Brown Sugar, 2000’s Voodoo and 2014’s Black Messiah — and numerous features that showcased his artistry.
We’re still unpacking this immense loss, but we had to pay homage to our dearly departed D’Angelo with a special tribute. We hit up dj harvey dent to revive our DJ mix series The Mixologists, and he blessed us with We Reminisce Over You: D’Angelo.
