Fans of Masego have been quite lucky these days. That’s because Uncle Sego has been keeping playlists full with new music. In mid-October, he dropped off “Unhinged” to near-universal praise. Then he capitalized on that momentum by giving us “Spin The Block” just before Halloween. Following through on the two-week pattern, he now releases his next new single “I Win.”
Like the two previous releases, “I Win” is once again all about love. Rather than dealing with life post-breakup or trying to rekindle something with a former flame, “I Win” extols the playful nature that exists between two people who are obviously in love. It begins with a melody based on the gentle strumming of guitar that is soon coupled a steady drumbeat. It creates a soothing effect that lulls the listener in while Masego sings of special moments with his lady.
“Love when we playing games / Like a couple of kids / You in my front yard, only summer exists,” he sings on the opening verse. “Need to memorize all you / In order to win / We can go back and forth, but you know I’m on a mission.”
With his eyes on the prize of her love, however, he’s already claiming victory by the chorus as he sings, “I win / Made it to your end zone / Any game you pick / I win.”
Masego couples the release of “I Win” with a lovely lyric video that showcases a tender moment between him and his lovely co-star. As she sits on the floor and knits herself a blanket, he sits behind her, combing out her ’fro with the attention and care that only a lover can give. It’s a moment so intimate — especially with the camera capturing it so lovingly — that you almost feel like you’re a fly on the wall in their living room.
It’s almost certain that Masego is about to drop something in the near future. And, with this being his third new single in less than a month, we have a sneaking feeling that future is coming sooner rather than later.
