Kehlani has been teasing new music on their socials, but they’re not ready for the “Folded” era to end just yet. We can’t blame them, because the song has become the biggest hit of their career and is a shoo-in to be nominated for a GRAMMY or three. “Folded” is a phenomenon that has people in a chokehold — much like the ’90s R&B that’s a part of the song’s DNA. To build on the song’s unstoppable momentum and in another nod to the 1990s, Kehlani has released a collection of viral remixes on the Folded Homage Pack.
On the Folded Homage Pack, listeners will find six remixes that evolved from the #FoldedChallenge that took TikTok and Instagram by storm over the past few months. Everybody and their cousin hopped on the challenge, but there were several memorable flips to come from top-notch R&B talent. Among those who brought their creativity, killer vocals and star power to “Folded” were Toni Braxton, Brandy, JoJo, Mario, Ne-Yo and Tank. Kehlani gathered their contributions, polished them up, packaged their remixes into this EP and presented us with this musical gift.
Even Kehlani couldn’t believe their good fortune and how this all came together. “this was the most organic beautiful thing i’ve ever had the pleasure of happening in my musical journey,” they wrote on their socials when the pack was announced. “every one of these artists are embedded in my DNA, from voice to pen. this wasn’t planned, the song came out and God said sit back & watch. i can’t explain what this means.”
Kehlani noted how monumental this has all been. “one day we’ll look back at this moment and realize this was RnB history!” they wrote before expressing their deep appreciation for the R&B community’s inspiration and support. “all i can do is say thank you to those who came before me and paved the way for all of us to exist.”
We love this for Kehlani. This is their time, and they’re rising to the occasion. The singer-songwriter is readying their highly anticipated new single “Out The Window” for release on Friday, November 7th. While we wait for that to drop, listen to Kehlani’s gift that keeps on giving when you press play on the Folded Homage Pack below, and let us know who delivered your favorite “Folded” refix.
