Chlöe is a very talented young woman. She can sing beautifully. She can dance her a** off. And, unbeknownst to quite a few, she’s also a music producer in her own right. Not only did she put in co-production work on most of the discography of Chloe x Halle, but she’s also a credited co-producer for some of her best-known solo cuts, including “Have Mercy” and “FYS.” She’s putting those skills on full display with her latest release “Keep Watching.”
“Keep Watching” was actually released at the behest of her fans, who clamored for her to drop the song after Chlöe shared the process of making it on her socials. That resulted in her dropping a video for the track mainly focused on her spending time in the studio. But the demand kept growing for the single to be released to streaming, prompting her label to give the people what they want.
One listen to the cut, and one can see why. The beats are beating on the track, with the programmed drums knocking alongside skittering hi-hats and looped vocal samples. The sound bed lends itself quite well for Chlöe to talk her ish with an assured posture.
“Boy, I step up in the place, it ain’t no accidental / I got a purpose, yeah, you know when I’m so monumental / I built an appetite for steppin’ up on necks a little,” she sings on the opening verse. “Yeah, you can act like you forget, but check on my credentials / Lo, behold, you’ve been told / Been that b***h since five years old.”
Chlöe is exactly who she thinks she is, and the talent she exhibits on “Keep Watching” proves exactly that — whether the song is your taste or not. We’re hoping that we get to see more of her flexing all of her talents in this way and maybe even making a name for herself as a producer for other artists as well.
