We’re just over a week out from the release of Through The Wall, the upcoming album from our girl Rochelle Jordan. RoJo has been quite forthcoming with singles from the set — giving us dance-forward cuts like “Crave,” “TTW” and “Doing It Too.” And while the singer-songwriter has no problem taking it to the house, she’s also no stranger to a smooth R&B groove. She proves just that with the set’s latest single “Sweet Sensation.”
The song is a throwback to an early ’80s sound filled with synthesizers and programmed drums over mellow keys. That sound isn’t by accident, as the singer teamed with producer DāM FunK and her longtime collaborator KLSH to perfect the song’s easy, breezy feeling. The fellas make it work and give her the perfect track to vibe to as she gets ready to hit the streets in search of a good time.
Rochelle teases and coos throughout the song as she lays out what she’s looking for. “Need a sweet sensation / Cherry apple pie,” she sings on the opening verse. “Like I’m on vacation / Won’t you take me for a ride?” Her flirting doesn’t seem too serious, though, as she implies that she and her girls are loving the attention but aren’t necessarily looking to take it further, with her singing on the chorus, “There ain’t a thing / That can keep me staying home tonight / It ain’t a thing, ain’t personal / Doing my thing, ain’t personal.”
While this isn’t necessarily the joint to get you hot and bothered on the dance floor, “Sweet Sensation” might be the perfect cut to put on as you’re getting ready for the night or cruising to the club. Give the track a spin right here, and be sure to look for Through The Wall when it drops on Friday, September 26th.
