We were pretty sure that we would have a new Miguel album in our collections several times over the eight years since his last LP, 2017’s War & Leisure. That, however, has not been the case. While we’ve gotten EPs Te Lo Dije and Art Dealer Chic Vol. 4 in the interim — as well as news of an album tentatively titled Viscera along with singles “Give It To Me” and “Always Time” — nothing solid ever came to fruition. However, there was a shift earlier this year when the singer-songwriter started dropping teaser posts on his socials alluding to something called CAOS (which is Spanish for the word “chaos”). Now, he’s made it official that CAOS is the title of his new album and has started the rollout process before the set’s October release.
CAOS looks to be a personal project for the singer-songwriter, who’s endured a lot over the past eight years. “To rebuild, I had to destroy myself. That is the core confrontation of CAOS,” he said in a press release. “Through my personal evolution, I learned that transformation is violent. CAOS is the sonic iteration of me bending that violence into something universally felt.”
Miguel has also given fans a chance to listen to the title track and possible lead single through his platform S1C.LA. Those interested in hearing the track need simply to submit their email address to get a code to access the site. It also seems that he’ll be using the site to bring his fans into the “personal and universal chaos that shaped the album — giving rare insight through music and visual storytelling” that is to come.
CAOS is set to drop on Friday, October 23rd, which happens to coincide with Miguel’s 40th birthday. We’re looking forward to seeing and hearing what the singer has been working on in the past eight years and can’t wait to get our hands on something more widely released.
