Though she’s been bubbling under for a while, it seems that Jai’Len Josey has finally arrived at her moment. The “New Girl” singer is preparing her upcoming debut album Serial Romantic for release in October. But before the set arrives, Jai’Len is ready to unleash her naughty side with the set’s newest single “Freak.”

As the title suggests, “Freak” is all about getting frisky. The song’s production, which seamlessly combines dance music and R&B, helps Jai’Len to sell the image of a sexpot whose simmer has been turned up to a boil. Soft keys combine with hypnotic synths and percolating percussion to turn up the heat and keep it going throughout the single’s runtime. Jai’Len, meanwhile, flexes her vocals as she comes on to the listener something fierce.

The verses set things up, with the singer calling our bluff from the very beginning. She sings of a black dress hugging her body in all the right places as she fearlessly flirts and titillates. Eventually, she gets even more direct on the refrain, singing, “You keep on telling me, what all you’re gon’ do to me / I think you better show me / You said, ‘Tonight you best be ready for the movie’ / Well baby, get to going.” She then happily plays her role on the chorus, cooing repeatedly, “’Cause I'm your little freak.”

She takes the song to another level with its official visualizer. In it, we see the singer give new meaning to the term “business casual” as she flaunts her assets all over an office in barely there outfits. We only see Jai’Len in the clip, but we don’t need anyone else in the mix to get the point as she gets us all hot under the collar quite well by her lonesome.

“Freak” is just one of the delights that will be found on Serial Romantic when it arrives on Friday, October 31st. The set, which is executive produced by industry vet Tricky Stewart, is sure to be a showcase for Jai’Len Josey as she shows us her unique musical voice and why she should be in any conversation about what’s next in music.
