Mariah Carey has her Lambs in a tizzy as the September 26th release date of her upcoming project Here For It All looms nearer and nearer. The 16th album of the elusive chanteuse’s storied career — and Mariah’s first-ever independent release — is getting quite the buzz thanks to the set’s current singles “Type Dangerous” and “Sugar Sweet.” And now the singer is teasing more of what’s in store by offering up the album’s tracklist.
The singer revealed the 11-song tracklist on Instagram with what looks to be the back cover art of the album. In turn, the reveal gives us some insight into the artistic direction of the set.
The album will start with “Mi,” which seems to nod to the new nickname she’s given herself for this artistic era. That’s soon followed by “Play This Song,” which features her rumored beau Anderson .Paak and we’re sure will be a good time. Next comes the aforementioned singles, whose vibes we already know (though it’s worth noting that “Sugar Sweet” curiously makes no mention of the single’s featured guests Shenseea and Kehlani).
Most of the rest of the titles seem to suggest that Mariah will be in an inspirational and celebratory mood, with titles like “Nothing Is Impossible,” “Confetti & Champagne” and title track “Here For It All” each standing out. But perhaps what makes our ears perk up the most is the set’s 10th track “Jesus I Do.” This is not only because we know how commanding Mariah can be we she ventures into gospel (see The Emancipation Of Mimi’s exceptional closer “Fly Like A Bird” for proof), but that it includes gospel legends The Clark Sisters in the number. We can only imagine how heavenly that collaboration is going to sound.
While we’ll have to wait another month the hear what Mariah Carey has crafted on Here For It All, we won’t have to wait as long for our next MC fix. The icon will finally receive the Video Vanguard award at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, September 7th and will also be gracing the stage for the first time in 20 years as a performer.
