Craig David is on the brink of releasing his new album Commitment this Friday (August 8th). He’s been prepping fans for the set’s arrival with a plethora of singles starting with 2024’s “In Your Hands,” followed by “SOS,” “Commitment” featuring Tiwa Savage, “Wake Up” and the JoJo duet “In It With You.” With five solid singles, we figured that Craig was done until the album dropped, but he’s got one more in the chamber with the LP’s sixth single “Rain.”
“Rain” is the first song that Craig recorded for Commitment, and it may be the most vulnerable track on the collection. He tries to come to grips with the fact that his relationship is over. He can’t fathom that what he and his partner once had is gone with the wind. David is reeling and feeling all the things when he sings, “Feels like we’re losing each other / And I don’t think we can recover,” on the first verse.
He pours his broken heart into every lyric, especially on the chorus. “Thought I found the words to say / Played it in my head a million times / Now we’re standing face to face / It’s so much harder looking in your eyes,” Craig croons. “Whole world might change / As soon as we go our separate ways / Blue skies turn grey / Now all I see on my window pane / Is rain, rain.”
Though the song is entitled “Rain” and he mentions rain in the lyrics, there isn’t a drop of water, a rain machine or a tear to be found in the visual. David avoids the typical music video tropes and instead gives an emotional performance of the song in a stark black-and-white capture by director Mauro Fernandes Borges. The camera goes in and out of focus to represent the daze Craig is left in after losing the one he gave his heart to.
“Rain” is yet another stellar sample of Craig David’s Commitment. Press play below on the audio and video to join Craig in his feelings.
