Summertime might conjure thoughts of sun and fun, but we’re not mad when things get moody. That’s why Khamari has been very welcome around these parts. His recent offerings, “Head In A Jar” and “Sycamore Tree,” have had us in our feels in the best way possible in recent months. And now the singer-songwriter has finally revealed that the singles will be featured on his upcoming sophomore album To Dry A Tear. He’s also kept the mood going with the release of the set’s next single “Lonely In The Jungle.”
“Lonely In The Jungle” finds Khamari giving voice to his insecurities about life and love. He sings of being lost in his feelings, pleading to his love and the universe as he laments his feelings. Eventually, his musings turn to searing questions as he wonders, “If there’s a God in this lonely jungle / Why haven’t my prayers been answered?" By the time the chorus hits, the singer has resigned himself to his fate, repeating “let it rain” on the song’s refrain.
If the tracklist titles give any clues, To Dry A Tear will continue the themes of its three singles. While love definitely seems to be on his mind (“I Love Lucy,” “Close”), and maybe even some happiness (“Euphoria”), a sort of weariness also seems to bleed through with titles like “Lord, Forgive Me” and “It’s A Mad World.” However, we’ll have to wait until the album’s release on Friday, August 22nd to truly know what the songs entail.
