Jenevieve made quite the first impression when she stepped onto the scene back in 2021 with her debut cut “Baby Powder.” The gorgeous and talented singer has been turning heads ever since with her laid-back, easygoing brand of R&B, enough so that she even got to collaborate with music legend Babyface on the extended version of his 2023 album Girls Night Out. Outside of releasing her EP Rendezvous and dropping her holiday song “Christmas Special” two years ago, the singer has been relatively quiet. That changed this year, though, as she’s recently released her new single “Head Over Heels.”
Arriving on the heels of her previous single “Haiku,” “Head Over Heels” is another silky smooth cut from the singer. Produced by Elijah Gabor, the song has an ’80s quiet storm feel to it thanks to a throbbing bass line, simple programmed drums and feather soft synth chords. But rather than getting closer than close to someone, “Head Over Heels” is made to ride out to as the singer packs it with an undeniable swagger.
The song’s self-assured vibe is courtesy of Jenevieve herself. Rather than sing about being head over heels in love, she instead flexes that she’s got all she needs to bring all the boys to the yard. “Baby, let’s ride, all my girls look stunnin’ / See you on the far side, baby, keep runnin’ / What’chu gon’ do with a girl so cunnin’?” she asks on the opening verse. She then sums it all up a few moments later, singing, “Welcome to the score, been ballin’ / Head over heels, I know you been fallin’.”
The song’s official visualizer hangs on to that mood. We’re invited to watch Jenevieve and her aforementioned girls as they cruise the strip in a cherry red sports car and look effortlessly fly in the process. With the top down and their hair blowing in the wind, they stunt and flaunt while daring us not to fall for them — all while knowing it’s an impossible task.
Jenevieve has got us in the palm of her hand once again, and there’s no place we’d rather be. Give the track a listen when you press play. Then take a spin with her and her homegirls in the official visualizer below.
