Erykah Badu is making music and making moves this year. She has been in the studio with The Alchemist, and after dropping the single “Next To You,” is readying the release of their collaborative album Abi & Alan. To support the set, the duo are going on the Badu and Alchemist Present: Abi + Alan LUV IZ...Tour in August. But that’s not all that Badu has plans to do. The high priestess of neo-soul has announced that she’s going on another tour later this year to commemorate the 25th anniversary of her seminal sophomore album Mama’s Gun.
Badu has announced the Mama’s Gun ’25: The Return Of Automatic Slim Tour for this autumn to coincide with the November anniversary of the collection. This new tour will debut on October 3rd with a show in Los Angeles at Hollywood Bowl with Westside Gunn. After that, Erykah will travel solo to Las Vegas, Atlantic City, Boston, Atlanta, Houston and Brooklyn, to name a few of the dozen cities she’ll pull up in. The 16-date tour will conclude on December 10th in the Dallas suburb of Irving, Texas, making it a homecoming for the eclectic songstress.
Released on November 21, 2000, Mama’s Gun dropped three years after her groundbreaking multi-platinum debut Baduizm and featured an album full of classics like “Bag Lady,” “Didn’t Cha Know,” “Kiss Me On My Neck” and “Time’s A Wastin.” Badu subsequently embarked on the Mama’s Gun World Tour in 2001, which took her across North America and Europe. This 25th anniversary tour may not be as extensive as the original was, but Erykah will treat these select audiences to a one-of-a-kind live experience as she is known to do and may even flesh out the tour with additional dates to meet the demand from fans.
