Debórah Bond has become well-known for her work with artists such as Melba Moore, Incognito, Zo! & Tall Black Guy and Misha. The DMV diva stays busy with various collaborators in the studio and booked on stages around the world. Now, Bond is back to bless fans with something new on the solo tip with her latest single “Amber Dust.”

Written by Debórah and produced by bassist Brandon Lane, “Amber Dust” pays homage to the incomparable Roy Ayers, who passed away in March, while giving listeners a funky fusion of musical styles and feel-good vibes. The song sounds like the golden time of day, with a warm glow of nostalgia as Bond and the musicians channel the spirit of Roy Ayers Ubiquity. All that’s missing is a vibraphone.

“Amber Dust” begins with infectious percussion, followed by a rich tapestry of bass, keys and guitar. Debórah then enters the chat with her exquisite, airy vocals that ride the rhythmic groove.

In the first verse, she describes her memories of Mr. Ayers’ music beautifully as she waxes poetic, “There’s a breeze in the air / And it’s in motion / Undertones of laissez-faire / Lined in gold / And it slowly fades.” Later on the chorus, she sets a vivid scene when she sings, “Amber dust and good wine / Makes me wanna play / I stayed in ’til the last round / Oh how I played / Now I’ll blow it all away.”

“This track is a thank-you letter to the groove architects like Roy Ayers, who gave us freedom in rhythm and color,” Bond said in a press statement. “‘Amber Dust’ is about the beautiful, dirty things that land in our storylines. We hold onto them, then let them go.”

To accompany the audio, Bora released a live video of “Amber Dust” filmed at the legendary Washington, D.C. underground nightclub House Of Secrets. Shot in one continuous take by Hourglass Sessions, the visual features the songstress and her band jamming in the intimate, eclectic venue and truly enhances the overall “Amber Dust” experience.
