Our girl Amber Mark has been in the studio for quite some time cooking up her upcoming album. We first got wind of the impending project when you she dropped her single “Comin’ Around Again” back in April of last year. But the singer-songwriter then switched gears and delivered her admittedly stellar EP Loosies back in November. Now she’s back in album mode and, to prove it, she’s dropped the lead single from her as-yet-untitled sophomore effort entitled “Sweet Serotonin.”
“Sweet Serotonin” swims in the same waters as “Comin’ Around Again,” with a soulful sound that’s not quite a throwback that’s gently inflected with a pop sensibility. The sound of it all is quite easygoing, with all the bass, guitar and horns featured in the instrumentation mixed smoothly, with only the bump of the kick drum adding any heaviness. It makes it all sound like cruising down the avenue on a slow summer Sunday.
Amber keeps the vocals and lyrics on the light and romantic side for this one, as she sings of a love that gives her a serotonin fix every time she sees him. “Sugar, honey, serotonin / You’re so funny when you rollin’ / Was kinda thinking, kinda hoping / That you’d be mine just for the moment,” she sings with a wink and nudge on the chorus. “You talkin’ sweet, you talkin’ sly now / You givin’ me that sugar high now / Aight, you captured my attention / I’ll let you be my new addiction.”
Amber captures the essence of the song in its official music video. We see the singer hanging with her band around the house, with the fellas ready to go with their instruments in hand. The camera follows her wherever she goes, making sure to make her the center of attention every time.
Getting new Amber Mark music always makes us happy, and “Sweet Serotonin” most definitely continues the tradition. Now all we need is a title and release date for that album. Listen to the stream of “Sweet Serotonin” and watch the song’s music video when you scroll down.
