Mariah Carey is having a moment during a milestone year. The diva is celebrating 35 years since her self-titled debut album was released, 30 years of Daydream and 20 years of The Emancipation Of Mimi, which she recently commemorated with a super-sized The Emancipation Of Mimi: 20th Anniversary Edition. While remembering the past, she’s also fully invested in the now with the release of her brand-new bop “Type Dangerous.” The woman who brought us jams like “Fantasy” and “Honey” has another one on her hands, and she’s keeping the party going in the song’s visual.

As she’s known to do, Mariah bring the glitz and the glamour to “Type Dangerous.” In the action-packed video directed by Joseph Kahn, she plays the role of a fabulous femme fatale who men are drawn to like bees to her honey. These men — who go by the names Mr. Player, Mr. Dancer, Mr. Traitor, Mr. Racer and Mr. Dealer — have ulterior motives, however. Scene by scene, she takes each one out who dares to come for the Queen of Christmas. She ends her takedown on world-famous YouTuber Mr. Beast who makes a cameo before Mariah quips, “I don’t know him,” and makes him disappear.

Days before dropping the video, Mimi performed “Type Dangerous” at the BET Awards 2025. Accompanying her was D-Nice on the turntables at Club Mariah, Anderson .Paak on drums, Rakim who came out to spit a verse and a stage full of male dancers dressed in white. She was a vision of loveliness in a sparkling gold mini-dress, but, despite all the action and excitement surrounding her on stage, she was very low energy and noticeably stiff.

Mariah was there to receive BET’s Ultimate Icon Award along with fellow honorees Jamie Foxx, Snoop Dogg and Kirk Franklin. She loosened up a bit and made light of this being her first-ever BET Award during her acceptance speech. “I heard this is actually my first BET Award, and I mean, if you’re going to get one, you might as well start with the Ultimate Icon Award,” she joked and let BET know better late then never.
