Braxton Cook is still the man. After releasing his EP My Everything last November, the singer-songwriter and saxophonist is gearing up to release his sixth studio album Not Everyone Can Go in August. But before he kicks the promotional cycle for the release into full gear, he’s taking a moment to reflect on love with the release of his Marie Dahlstrom duet “All My Life.”
“All My Life,” like most of his recent work, explores the theme of love and dedication — a fitting rumination for Braxton as he’s experienced marrying the love of his life and the birth of two sons in the past six years. As we all know, a growing family life and a burgeoning music career don’t always mix. Braxton proves that he’s willing to give his all to his family, however, and chooses them over and over again in his lyrics.
He does so once again here, with soft, jazzy R&B instrumentation helping him deliver a tender, loving sentiment. “I just wanna love you all my life / I just wanna give you all heart / All my life / All my love,” he sings on the chorus. “And even when I know we’re worlds apart / Just know that you will always have my heart / All my life / All my love.”
Marie joins the lovefest on the second verse, offering a soft place to land with any worry that her love might have. And once she has her say, she then joins him on the chorus to harmonize and ad-lib, creating utterly beautiful music with Braxton.
Of course, this wouldn’t be a Braxton cut without his sax skills as the cherry on top. He takes opportunities to give us several sax solos throughout the song, culminating in a stirring moment at the song’s end where he plays against a buzzy electric guitar, creating a delicious juxtaposition of hard and soft tones.
Braxton styles on us for the track’s visual featuring gorgeous shots in a sculptural garden and different sets. And though the sights are breathtaking, the true beauty is found in the many people featured throughout. In addition to the performer and his sax, lovers, grandparents and grandchildren, parents and children and even families just starting to blossom all get a bit of screentime as the clip acts as a love letter to all types of love.
We love the message that Braxton Cook is sending here, and we’re also sure that we’ll love Not Everyone Can Go when it arrives on Friday, August 29th. Stream “All My Life” and watch its visual below.
